June Conley Gunter, born August 23, 1936, passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the age of 88. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her sons, Ron (Susan) Gunter and Tim Gunter; her daughters, Patty (Steve) Smith, Wendy (Bob) Thomason, and Linda (Sean) Phillips; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Stella (Adams) Conley; her brothers, Mort and Bobby Conley; her sister, Doris Killough.
June was born in Paintsville, Kentucky, and she grew up in Indiana. Several loving people kindly helped her during her teenage years: Connie Grubbs, and Gail and Lois Conkling. She graduated from North Webster High School in North Webster, Indiana, in 1954, and married Ronald in November of that year.
Ronald was in the United States Air Force, so they served in many locations: Delaware, Kansas, Texas, and Guam. When they were stationed on Guam, June accepted Christ when a woman shared the Gospel with her by using the Wordless Book.
When Ronald was discharged from the USAF, they moved to Greenville, South Carolina, so he could attend Bob Jones University. June was active in the Students’ Wives' Association as an officer.
She showed her love for her children by attending their ball games, music performances, and by sewing suits and dresses. She was the creator of rainy-day boxes, and was the true inventor of themed birthday parties.
When her children were grown, she pursued her passion for nursing. She graduated from Greenville Technical College with honors and became a registered nurse and served for eighteen years at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville Memorial Hospital, and Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital. She ended her nursing career as a school nurse in the Greenville County School District.
After suffering a stroke in 2015, June found another way to minister to others with a card ministry. She sent out countless anniversary, sympathy, get-well, birthday, and encouragement cards. She touched many people's lives with her caring heart.
A visitation for June will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 500 W Lee Rd, Taylors, SC 29687 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
A committal service will occur Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29609.
