June Harper McAbee

Born in Spartanburg, SC on July 7, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Charles Edward Harper and Mrs. Estelle Corley Harper.

June is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tom McAbee, her daughter Libby Cobb (Jack) of Spartanburg and her son Louis McAbee of Greenville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Max Cobb (Jamie) of Spartanburg, Dylan Cobb (Feli) of Denver, CO, and Savannah Cobb (Callum McLean) of Baltimore MD; two sisters, her twin, Jo Webb (Wallace) and younger sister Kay Childs. She was predeceased by her youngest sister Pat White.

June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was very generous and giving of her time to others. She was an avid reader and a member of two book clubs. She enjoyed bridge and was a member of a bridge club where they played a friendly but competitive game. She was a competitive tennis player who competed at a 4.0 level in her Senior League. She loved flowers, as evidenced by the many beautiful plants and flowers inside and outside her home. She also was a member of a local garden club. She was skilled at making beautiful arrangements and if her family, church, or friends needed flower arrangements, June was always willing to help. She was a skilled decorator and her home in Greenville and her beach home at Kiawah attest to her ability. She loved her coffee and her daily visit to Starbucks where they knew her by name and order. She loved spending time with family and friends at her house on Kiawah, but she also liked visiting family and friends at other SC beaches, like Litchfield, Isle of Palms, and Garden City. June was always physically active and loved exercising, be it tennis, cycling or walking on the beach but her most recent love was her water aerobics class and its members who became good friends of hers.

She was an active member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and was loved and will be missed by her church family there. She was always available to lend a hand as were they to help her in her time of need.

A memorial service for June will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 3:00 PM at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 35 Shannon Drive, Greenville, SC 29615, with a reception and celebration of her life to follow.
