

Katherine earned her BA in Speech from Bob Jones University, Masters in Speech and course work toward a PhD at Northwestern University; also completed graduate work in cinema at the University of Southern California, and served an internship in Hollywood under Stanley Kramer. She taught speech from 1939 to 1950 at Bob Jones University and in 1950 founded The Film Department where she was director and producer. Also, she was chairperson of the School of Cinema from 1950 to 1989, and continued teaching graduate courses in film directing until 2001. Her memberships included the Gospel Fellowship Association and the BJU Film Association. Katherine directed 72 productions including promotional films, multi-dash image productions, and feature-length films. She represented the University Film Producers Association and the United States at the International Film Festival in Cannes and was the keynote speaker at the International Congress of Motion Picture and Television Schools. She also won distinctive awards for “Wine of Morning”, “Sheffey”, and “Red Runs the River”, among others.
Surviving are her son, Gilbert R. Stenholm and wife Barbara of Burr Ridge, IL; grandsons, Scott and Eric Stenholm and his wife Lisa; great-grandchildren, Bode and Morgan; and sisters, Beatrice Jekel-Bell and Ruby Golaski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her beloved husband, Dr. Gilbert R. Stenholm; brother, George Corne; and sister Louise Evans.
