Kathleen M. Kennedy

Kathleen was born on January 25, 1929, in Washington, Georgia, to William Thomas Maxwell and Frances Rebecca (Smith) Maxwell. She married her late husband, Charles Edward Kennedy, on March 26, 1949, and the two shared 45 years. Kathleen was a loving wife and mother, a devoted grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and by her many friends.

Kathleen Kennedy had a lively personality and never met a stranger. She was a charter member of Edwards Road Baptist Church, where she often served in the church nursery. After working as a nurse in Atlanta, Georgia, and Administrative Assistant at Liberty Life Insurance Company, she volunteered for many years at St. Francis Hospital. Countless people whose lives she touched were charmed by the kind words and warm smile of “Ms. Kennedy.”

Kathleen is survived by her son Charles Edward Kennedy Jr. (Teresa) and daughter Kathleen Denise Vaughn (Gene), her grandchildren Ryan Kennedy, Meagan Kennedy Grant, Lauren Vaughn, and Erin Kennedy Cordova, and two great-grandsons, Caden Cordova and Solomon Grant.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her 11 siblings: Susan Lee Kennedy, Frances Rebecca English, William Maxwell, Richard Maxwell, Thomas Maxwell, Nancy Louise Kelly, Henry Maxwell, Pauline Gibbons (Kathleen’s twin), Emily Edith Alley, Mary “Ibby” Smith, and Jean Maxwell (age 4 months old).

Kathleen Kennedy’s favorite Bible verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Services for Kathleen will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Edwards Road Baptist Church, 1050 Edwards Rd, Greenville, SC 29615. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM.
