Larry C. Hammond of Easley, SC, passed away January 8, 2021 after a period of declining health. He was born on December 5, 1945 in Greenville, NC. He is the son of the late Theodore and Virginia Hammond of Sumter, SC.

Larry grew up on the family farm in North Carolina. In 1988, his life took a turn when he moved to Greenville, SC. He was hired by Houston Federal Credit Union, where he planned and coordinated the opening of the first branch office. He had found his joy as he loved the Credit Union and its many members. Even at age 75, he remained active as the Senior Vice President of Business Development.

He was a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church in Easley, SC, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and usher. He was a past member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church in Piedmont, SC, and Corinth Baptist Church in Westminster, SC, where he served his Lord as a deacon, usher, Sunday school teacher, and church treasurer. He served in any and all capacities that was asked of him. One of his greatest delights was serving on the building committee and assisting in building the new church. He was an active member of Masonic Lodges across the state as he moved from the low country to Columbia, SC and then into the upstate area. While in Columbia he became an avid Gamecock fan and loved tailgating with his friends. He also had a passion for fishing with his buddy Gene, and he enjoyed working in his yard and flower garden, which was kept in immaculate condition.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Moore Hammond; two daughters, Elaine Pace Cribbs (Bruce) and Susan Pace Clark (Greg); one granddaughter, Elizabeth Rhew Cribbs; two sisters, Gerri Roark and Jean Scott; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his precious grandson, Evan Bruce Cribbs.

He also leaves behind a multitude of friends and co-workers. He was a giving man who was willing to help anyone who needed his guidance, mentoring or help.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at 311 Century Dr., Greenville, SC 29607. The family kindly ask that all friends attending wear masks and social distance. Funeral services will be private and for family only.

I really enjoyed working with Mr. Hammond. His 'menter cheese sandwiches were legendary. He was very supportive of my career, when I started working at the credit union and even when I was leaving for another job. He was a great man and I will miss him. Love to all of you, I will be praying.
