Lillie was born in Greenville, and upon completing her education had a long history of employment and accomplishments during her lifetime, notably with the Farmers Home Administration in Charleston, SC, and the fraternal organizations in which she served. She enjoyed many hobbies, such as crafting, decorating and floral arranging, putting together jigsaw puzzles with friends, playing cards, especially Phase 10, and giving her brain a workout with word search puzzles. Her family's fondest and most treasured memories are of the countless times they gathered around the table, in her home or theirs, enjoying delicious food, lovingly prepared and shared with others, especially her peach ice cream, signature cakes and holiday treats.
Lillie is survived by her daughters, Pat Dachowski (Alex), Cyndi Hicks Nobles, and Gina Hicks Boyd; her grandchildren, Becky Britt, Andy Nesmith, Tricia Carter, Shannon Wing, Jeremy Pierce, Bryan Pierce, Jamie Pierce, Debrina Jones, Sheila Thrift, Morgan Boyd, Seve Boyd, and Austyn Boyd; 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Brooks, Sr. and Kate Austin Brooks; husbands James E. Hicks and E. L. Hutto; brothers Joseph Brooks, Jr., James Brooks and John Brooks; and sisters Catherine Harpring and Bette Smith.
A visitation for Lillie will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. A memorial service will begin at 12:30, followed by a reception.
