She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1969 and her Master’s degree from Ohio University in 1977. While receiving her education, she traveled to many countries including Austria, Yugoslavia, Nepal, Bangkok and Tokyo to name a few. She eventually ended up in Greenville, South Carolina. Niki was a teacher for the deaf and hearing impaired for 33 years before retiring from Greenville County School district.
Niki was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church and was a very active member in the church. She received The Archangel Michael Honors Award in 2018. She was given this award because she exemplified the true Orthodox Christian way of life by faith, commitment, dedication and service to the church and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed Daughters of Penelope. Her hobbies included organizing blood drives, cooking, baking, meeting with friends for lunch and spending time with her grandsons.
Niki is survived by two sons, Jason Poland (Stephanie) and Chris Poland; two grandsons, Briggs Poland and Hayes Poland; and her sisters Diane Healy and Jackie Ellis.
A visitation for Niki will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 406 N Academy St, Greenville, SC 29601 with the Transient Service at 10:30 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. Niki was a huge supporter of The Blood Connection and would love for many people to donate!
