Linton Baldwin Puckett “Buddy”, 75, passed away January 8, 2019. Born in Greenwood, SC on April 2, 1943, Buddy was the second son of William Harling Puckett and Clara Baldwin Puckett. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Johanne, their three sons, Matt Puckett (Catherine) of Greenville, SC ; B. Puckett (Erin) of Elmhurst, IL; and John Puckett (Joni) of Roswell, GA; and eight grandchildren, Holt, Annie, Kailyn, Boyd, Clara, Ames, Hayden and Cord. He is also survived by his older brother, Rev. William H. Puckett, Jr.(Linda) of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Buddy was a 1965 graduate of Furman University. After serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Army, Buddy began his career in insurance at The Furman Company. In 1971, he started his own company, The Puckett Scheetz Insurance Agency and after a successful and storied career, he retired in 2015 from Wells Fargo Insurance Services.
Among his many accomplishments, Buddy was a founding member of The Peace Center, a member of the Society of International Business Fellows and served on many community boards and committees including Furman University Board of Trustees and The St Francis Hospital System Board. He also served as president of Greenville Country Club and is a member of the Cotillion Club in Greenville.
Buddy is best known for his jokes, animated stories, wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. He was an avid golfer, and one of his favorite past times was deep sea fishing on his boat, The Fish n Sip, with his three boys and his many friends. In 1991 he won the SC Governors Cup, by landing a record setting 667lbs Blue Marlin.
He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 11th at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Ministries of Greenville or Furman University Men’s Golf Program.
