Lyles Houston, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 10, 2015.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a son of the late Reagan and Mary Jane Lyles Houston.
He was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas and attended the University of Texas, Austin where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Early in his career he was a licensed Real Estate Broker in Austin, Texas. Later he returned to his family's ranching enterprise in Uvalde, Texas where he was proud to participate for many years with the Texas A & M experimental station on the ranch. Lyles served as a lifetime Board member and participant in the San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show. He will be fondly remembered as a gifted storyteller and was a recognized participant at the annual National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, TN. One of his favorite pastimes has been his attendance in a weekly Bible Study Fellowship in Boiling Springs, SC and daily visits with Tommy Stevens, the staff and friends at Tommy's Ham House in Greenville.
His is survived by his loving family: his wife, Carol Reid, of the home; his children, Louisa Vann and husband, Philip of Columbia, SC; Hunter Houston of San Antonio, Texas; Carol's children whom he also loved as his own, Kent Fink and wife, Angel, Keli Goode and husband, Jeff, and Jill Schwarzkopf and husband, Scott; his brother Reagan Houston IV and wife Patricia of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob, Zac and Jacey Fink, Cole and Nolan Goode, Mary Rose and Reid Schwarzkopf; and his brother-in-law, Richard Reid and wife, Cheryl.
In addition, he loved his significant extended family members in Texas.
A service to celebrate his life will be 10:30a.m. Wednesday morning at The Mackey Mortuary with the Reverend Robert Graziano officiating.
Burial will be at 3:00p.m. in the Highlands Cemetery, Highlands, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 o'clock at the mortuary.
