Lynne was born in Florence, SC to the late James G. Tompkins and Eva Wilder Tompkins of Andrews, SC. Growing up in the 1950's in small town Andrews, SC, Lynne was surrounded by farm country, beloved cousins, and church community. After graduating from Furman University in 1962 with her education degree, she learned she despised teaching and instead devoted her time to raising a family, supporting her military spouse, and later earning her master’s degree.
During her working life, she applied creativity and customer service skills to sharing her floral designs with customers, family, and friends. Lynne was a dedicated fan of the performing arts, volunteering locally with the Peace Center and the Warehouse Theater. She continued her support of the arts as a season ticket holder and loyal patron.
Lynne devoted herself to supporting her family in their various adventures as they grew into adulthood. She deeply valued her friends, book club, board games, and Monday bridge with the group at Aldersgate UMC. She had special place in her heart for her wonderful neighbors in Bradford North and delighted in welcoming new neighbors into the community.
In addition to her parents, Lynne was preceded in death by her son, Brannen Cassady. She is survived by her daughter; Carol Cassady of Greenville, and four grandchildren; Parker Cassady, Chase Cassady, Jacob Rabinovitch, and Leanna Marsh.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday July 1, 2026 in the Chapel of Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park: 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville SC 29609. The family will be receiving visitors after the service at her home.
