Margaret Burns was born November 10, 1932, the daughter of the late George Howard and Molly Loftis. She was born in Inman, SC on the mill village and both parents worked at Inman Mills. Later the family moved to Campobello, SC where she finished Campobello High School and later, she graduated from Cecil’s Business School in Spartanburg, SC. On December 20, 1952, Margaret married Gary Dean Burns, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage.
After Gary graduated Wofford College, they moved to Greenville, SC where they raised their two boys, remaining in the same home they purchased in 1957. Margaret worked in accounts receivables at Steel Heddle Mfg. Co. where she ultimately retired from. However, she took time off to raise her children, and volunteered at their schools, Shriners Hospital, and several other organizations.
Margaret’s faith in Christ was central in her life. She was active as a child at Inman Mills Baptist, and as a teenager and young adult at First Baptist Campobello, where she married Gary and played the piano. They moved to Greenville, SC and she spent years attending White Oak Baptist and Taylors First Baptist. She would serve in the church office, a member of the choir, Vacation Bible School, prepare meals for those in need, and was faithful to her Sunday school class.
