

When he returned from service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, Margaret married Herbert Drake, Jr. They were married for 46 years. After graduation from Greenville High School, she attended Furman University and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a loving mother and homemaker before working at the American Red Cross and as the Director of the Cancer Society of Greenville County. She volunteered throughout her life, including Meals on Wheels in Anderson.
Margaret and Herbert raised their family in Marshall Forest surrounded by lifelong friends. Then later they moved to Lake Hartwell, where Margaret enjoyed wonderful times with all her dear friends on the Point. She always welcomed her friends and family with love and generous hospitality.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Bush and brother, Ben Sloan.
Margaret is survived by her son, Herbert Drake, III (Beth); and two daughters, Pat Miller and Jane Daffin (Achim). She has eight grandchildren; Tricia Finley (Eric), Betsy Drake (Joe), Lindsay Guenther (Jack), Katie Drake, Michael Miller, Emily Miller, Bo Miller (Jordyn) and Joy Hiott (John). She also has five great-grandchildren; Rachel Finley, Drake Guenther, Bella Miller, Jackson Guenther, Damian Miller and Elizabeth Hiott.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Jamie Messina and Jessica Erwin of Sweet Senior Sitters, for all their love and tender care they gave Margaret over the past six years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Chapel of the Mackey Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville at 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605 and Meals on Wheels at 105 S. Fant St., Anderson, SC 29624.
