Peggy was born on October 17, 1929, in Niles, Michigan, to Milford and Marjorie Carpenter. She grew up in Dowagiac and Niles, Michigan, and graduated from Niles High School in 1947. On August 30, 1958, she married Roger David Gerold. Together, they had one son, Roger Noel Gerold. As an adult, she lived in Michigan, New York, Ohio, and South Carolina.
Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Peggy continued her education at Indiana University-South Bend, studying English, and later, Paralegal Studies. She also worked for the American Red Cross in Niles. She enjoyed being politically active, and was involved in the local Republican Party in both Michigan and South Carolina. While in Michigan, she served as Secretary of the Niles Township Republican Party. In South Carolina, she was a member of the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club. She enjoyed reading and collecting antiques. She adored her grandsons, and loved spending time with them.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents and husband, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Noel and Amy Gerold, of Wyoming, Michigan, grandson and granddaughter-in-law, David and Vicki Gerold, of Belding, Michigan, grandson, Evan Gerold, of Wyoming, Michigan, and great-grandson, Connor Gerold.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 12, at 10:00 AM, at the Mackey Funeral Home, 311 Century Dr., Greenville, SC 29607.
