

Margaret Buser Schilling, 99, of Greer, passed away October 3, 2016. Born in Thomas, WV to Harley Buser and Gladys Newcomer Buser, Margaret was the widow of Robert N. Schilling who died in 1975. She was predeceased by a brother, sister and son, Alan Kirk Schilling. She is survived by a daughter, Judith Schilling of Vallejo, CA; two grandchildren, Dominic (Sayra) Spediacci and Catlin Spediacci; and a great granddaughter Jillianne Spediacci. She is also survived by longtime friends and caregivers, Danny and Frankie Powell. Margaret moved to Greenville in 1968 and became active in community projects. She was known as the “Bicentennial Crepe Myrtle Lady”; a Life Member of the Nature Conservancy, Garden Club of S.C. and The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center. She was a Nationally Accredited Master Flower Show Judge, a Master Landscape Design Critic Emeritus where she served as president for two years. In 1986 she became a Master Gardener, writing “Timely Tips” for their newsletter for many years. She served three terms as president of the Clarice Wilson Garden Club, and two terms as Foxcroft Garden Club President. She was a longtime member of Greenville Woman’s Club. As a volunteer she served on the “Beautiful Greenville Project”, Festival of Trees, General Hospital Newborn Nursery, Art Museum, Cancer Society, Senior Action R.S.V.P. for over 25 years, Roper Mountain Science Center and Miracle Hill Ministries. At her request no services will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. A special thank you is extended to the Staff of Lilac Cottage at The Cottages of Brushy Creek for their kind and compassionate care of Margaret.
