I wondered why I did not get a call  on my birthday.  You always called to  wish me Happy Birthday.  I was surprised when I called you and your phone was disconnected. You always picked up and we talked for an hour. I was disappointed when I did not get a Christmas Card. I always expected a card. When I called you on your birthday your phone was still disconnected. I knew something was terribly wrong so today I googled your name and I found your obituary. I am devastated. You have been my friend since 7th grade at Hughes Jr. High School. We have laughed, shared secrets and dreams and cried together when your mama passed so tragically. Even though I live 700 miles away we stayed connected at the heart. You knew when something was wrong...you knew before I told you, I hope you realized how much your friendship meant to me throughout the years. Tonight I will play the music that connected us from our years growing up in the 60’s. Willow Weep for Me. I have lost my dear, lifelong friend. Thank you for always being there.

Genie and family,  just found out that Kathy has passed away.  
I've known ya'll  for so long it's hard to remember it all!  What I do remember is that if Kathy was your friend, she was a great friend.   She would do anything for anyone!!  I remember when JJ, my son, was little she loved playing with  him.   Also that our crowd spent many weekends at the Downstairs, Cock n Bull,  Carousel,  Captains Lounge and anywhere else we could get into.  Gosh, that was 40 or more years ago!!  She did love her music and her friends!  I know you will miss her dearly!!  I'm so sorry for your loss!!  ❤       Deidre Johnson

I have known Kathy about 16 years when bluegrass brought us together. She became a wonderful friend who would do anything for you. When my son died , Kathy was the first one at my home to offer me comfort and support. We also shared many happy times. We went to yard sales, bluegrass  concerts, and had long phone conversations about our favorite TV programs. Kathy had a big heart and loved her family, friends, and furbabies . Although her life wasn't  easy and she dealt with many  hardships,  she  was always there for those who needed her. She has finally found peace and is pain free. God bless you and rest in peace, my dear friend. You are missed.



Twenty plus years of memories with my friend could never fit in this box. What a blessing to have had you in my life, “the daughter you never had”. I regret more than anything I didn’t get to say goodbye and that I’m now 9000 miles away and won’t get to touch and kiss your sweet face. 
You gave my baby his very first book and we’ve read it 100s of times. Your stories and laughter will forever live on and I’ll always sing Be-By-Bo to him in memory of you. 
Whether we were laughing it up at bluegrass, crying over a loss, or just laying on the bed talking, you have always been there for me. 
You always said I HAD to play “Living on Tulsa Time” at your funeral (I hope it happens) even if Genie says no lol. I positive “Ding song the witch is dead” wont happen there today.  Oh, I’ll miss you so!

I love you forever Kathy and will deeply miss your presence in my life until we meet again on those shores! 

Kathy was a faithful and generous friend to bluegrass, to The Handlebar and to the many people she loved. When she loved, she loved fiercely.  She always had a grin and a smile and a hug. She had her share of hardships, but would always spring back -- earlier and better than her doctors or her friends expected. The last time I saw her, she said The Handlebar Girls (customers and staff) were like sisters. Goodbye, sister. I love you. I speak for all of the Handlebar staff and my, husband, John, in sending our love to Kathy and our most sincere condolences to her family and friends.


Evertime I saw K athy she was so caring and supportive to me like a big sister. She was independent, down to earth, enjoyed what she loved and was a steadfast fan of her music friends. Sometimes when you lose someone you feel a shift in that things will never be like they were and this is one of those times. Kathy, you will be missed and thought of fondly often. God bless you and keep you til we meet again.

Charlie and I have enjoyed our friendship with Kathy for many, many years. She was a staunch supporter of our band and came to hear us play at every opportunity. Kathy and I shared the same birthday, took a trip to the beach together and shared many moments in life. We will miss her very much. Our deepest condolences  to her family.  She loved you all fiercely.

So sorry to hear about Kathy. I’ve known her since around 2001, when I first discovered the bluegrass jam at The Handlebar. She has been faithful to come to the jam even when it ended there, the jam just moved to another venue and still continues to this day.  The last time I saw her was the Tuesday before at Gottrocks. 🙁 You never know when it’ll be the last time you see someone. RIP my dear friend
