Mary Vance Gaffney Gibson

Mary Vance Gaffney Gibson, 90 of Simpsonville died at her home on February 20th, 2023. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Monroe and Mary Montague Wright Gaffney. Mary Vance was married to the late Warren Ray Gibson for over 54 years.

During her married life, she had the opportunity to live in South Carolina, Georgia, and California and travelled virtually every place in between. Mary Vance was an owner and manager of Woodlawn Memorial Park for almost 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Chapter F of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was the first president of the South Carolina State Chapter of P.E.O. Mary Vance was also a member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son Gaffney Gibson, and his wife Monica, and three grandchildren, Kathryn, Megan, and Jacob and her niece Preston McAfee. In addition to her husband, Ray Gibson, Mary Vance was preceded in death by her son Vance Gibson, her parents and four siblings, Clyde Gaffney, Jr., William Gaffney, Elizabeth Gaffney Tyson, and Richard Gaffney.

Special thanks to her lifelong friend Emma Gene Fryer and the sitters who allowed her to remain in her home throughout her life, Alice Arnold, Yolanda Holmes, Lisa Fair and Jayla Milom.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 24th at 10 a.m. in the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
