Maryann Cochran Abbott
January 19, 1922 – April 28, 2021
Maryann Cochran Abbott, widow of the late Forrest Anderson Abbott, passed away on Wednesday April 28, 2021.
Maryann was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Cochran. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Stewart (Robert); her sister-in-law, Evelyn Abbott Irzyk; and her nephew, Robert Harvey Stewart III. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Abbott Quarles; and by many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Born in Greenville, SC Maryann attended local schools and graduated in 1939 from Greenville Senior High. In 1943, she graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA and was chosen Life President of her class.
Married on June 7, 1944, Maryann accompanied Forrest to Camp Blanding, FL where they remained until returning to Greenville in December 1945.
Maryann was a life-long member First Presbyterian Church, where at various times she served as trustee, deacon and President of the Women of the Church.
Maryann’s commitment to community service was strong. During her active years, she held positions of leadership in the YWCA, the Greenville County Library, United Way and the Community Foundation of Greenville.
A private graveside service will held at Springwood Cemetery in Greenville, SC.
