Max Harold Karelitz, 103, widower of Lillian Wernick Karelitz, passed away September 10, 2014. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Samuel and Annie Karelitz. He graduated from Clemson College in 1933. Max entered into a career with the United States Army, graduating from the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel in 1961. He later retired from the retail business in Fountain Inn in 1979. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants Bureau, Relief Agency, in Fountain Inn. He also served as Commander of the American Legion Post; and was a member of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. Max was a faithful member of Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue. Surviving is a daughter, Ronda S. Karelitz, of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Richard L. Karelitz, of Atlanta, GA and Steven A. Karelitz of Greenville; and four grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00am at Beth Israel Cemetery, inside of Graceland Cemetery West, 4814 White Horse Road, Greenville.
