Born on August 25, 1975 in Seattle, Mike graduated from Washington State University and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the College of Law at Willamette University. Mike was a talented lawyer who started his career in Seattle followed by several years at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. He moved to Greenville to practice law at Nelson Mullins. He was profiled as a “Who’s Who One to Watch” by the Upstate Business Journal in 2015 due to his work in securities and emerging growth companies. Professionally, Mike was particularly interested in private equity and entrepreneurship. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, rooting for Washington State University athletics, watching movies, and playing with his sweet dachshund, Lucy. Most importantly, Mike was a proud, loving father who had no greater joy than spending time with his young son.
Mike will be dearly missed and remembered with love by his wife, Rachel Johnson; his 3-year-old son, William Furie Johnson; his father, Howard “Bud” Johnson, and Howard’s wife, Helen; his mother, Maxine Clark, and Maxine’s husband, Mark; his brother, Tim Johnson (Stephany); his stepsisters: Christi Clark (Ivan Mendoza), Rebecca Nicholson (Kenneth), and Amanda Alexander (Nathan); his stepbrothers, Nicholas Thomas and Brian Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. A celebration of Mike’s life will begin 12:00 p.m. at the same location.
