Mildred C. Buchanan

Born in Greenville on November 2, 1929 she was the daughter of Love and Annie Chandler and loving wife of Cecil Buchanan. She was predeceased by her two brothers Lewis and the Reverend Leon Chandler. In addition to her husband she is survived by her two sons, David (Judie) and Tim (Catherine) Buchanan and 3 grandsons. She had a great love for her family.

Special thanks from the family go to Carol Emory, Brianna Jensen and Larissa Troupe who lovingly cared for her over her last many months.

Her love for music was evident throughout her life as she directed countless children’s choirs and was music director at First Baptist Greenville Kindergarten for over 10 years. She was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church and prior to that Pendleton Street Baptist Church where she faithfully sang in the choir for over 50 years. She shared her angelic soprano solo voice for countless weddings, funerals, concerts and events.

Her love for her Lord was greater still as she loved and encouraged others. She served as President of the Greenville Christian Women’s Club. At Pendleton Street she taught a young married couples Bible Study class, served as Chairman of Deacons and Director of Senior Adults. She and Cecil were sponsors at the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home where she loved to visit the children.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday January 2, 2018 at 1:00PM at the Mackey Mortuary with the family receiving friends immediately afterward. A private burial will be held before the celebration.
