Morgan W. Fayssoux

Morgan William (“Stick”) Fayssoux, a native and lifelong resident of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026. He was born on October 10, 1937 to the late R. Scott Fayssoux and Verda Poole Fayssoux.

Morgan graduated from Greenville High School in 1955. Four years later, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University where he was a member of the golf team and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Upon completing his service with the National Guard, he started his career in the cotton business. After beginning in 1962 at Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, he was a cotton buyer for several textile companies including Burlington Industries, Cook Industries, Inc., and Mount Vernon Mills, Inc. In 1982, he joined J.P. Stevens & Company, and for several years he was the largest buyer of cotton in the world. During the 1980’s, he served on the Board of the New York Cotton Exchange. In 1988, Morgan fulfilled his dream of owning his own cotton merchant company and founded Carolina Cotton Company, Inc., where he was later joined by his son. Throughout his career, he relished mentoring and training the next generation in the cotton and textile business and enjoyed watching them grow in their careers.

The core passion of Morgan’s life was golf—for the love of the game, but, more importantly, for the friends he made along the way. Morgan forged many lifelong friendships while caddying at Paris Mountain Country Club and on the Furman University golf team. For decades, Morgan was an active member of the Greenville Country Club, Musgrove Mill Golf Club, the Poinsett Club, Wade Hampton Golf Club and the Chattooga Club. He served on the Board of Governors for Greenville Country Club from 1982 through 1984.

Throughout his life, he competed in and won numerous industry and club golf tournaments. Morgan always strove to excel and improve as a golfer and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the game. He loved spending time in Cashiers, North Carolina and traveling throughout the country to play golf; he cherished memories of playing at Pine Valley Golf Club and Augusta National.

As a young boy and continuing through college, Morgan worked for The Greenville News as a paper delivery boy in the downtown area. From this experience, Morgan learned lessons that served him well throughout his life and that he taught his children: the value of hard work and a great education, an ability to befriend people and engage with everyone, the necessity of a balanced account and budget, and a standard of excellence and honesty in all endeavors.

Morgan lost his father at the age of 19 and was a devoted son to his mother, Verda, throughout her long and active life. Morgan was a committed and supportive father and a proud grandfather.

Morgan had an irreverent and mischievous sense of humor. With his blue eyes twinkling, he loved to tease his friends and family, throw out a well-placed zinger, roar with laughter at his own jokes, and engage in a myriad of shenanigans. He loved history, math and geography and was an avid follower of the commodities and stock markets.

Morgan W. Fayssoux is survived by his children, Kimberlye Fayssoux Cornelson (George), Elizabeth Fayssoux Cummings, Morgan William (“Bill”) Fayssoux, Jr. (Tammy); his brother, James Walter Fayssoux (Emily); and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Morgan was preceded in death by his sister, Eliza (“Lila”) Fayssoux Moseley; his brother-in-law, Milner C. (“Moe”) Moseley; his sister, Mary Jo Fayssoux Garner; his brother-in-law, Carlos P. Garner; his brother, Dr. Richard Scott (“Pete”) Fayssoux; his sister-in-law, Catherine (“Cathey”) Hammond Fayssoux; and countless close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Mackey Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. A private interment will be held at Springwood Cemetery.
