The oldest of four children, Todd grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville Senior High School. He was an Eagle Scout. Todd was a graduate of Furman University and Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. He completed a surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina receiving the Upjohn Achievement Award for Outstanding Surgery Resident. Todd began practicing general surgery with his father at Hillcrest Surgical Associates in Simpsonville. He practiced for 32 years living out his calling to care compassionately for all his patients including devoting time serving as a medical missionary on three month-long trips to the Middle East.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Greenville where he met his future wife when they were both members in the youth group. Todd and Jane Ellison married in 1968 with many calling the two a perfect pair and a match made in heaven. In his early years, Todd served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher, and in these most recent years, he loved delivering food bags for elementary kids with his wife and daughter with FBG’s Mission Backpack program. He walked his girls down the aisle and was there for the dedication of his five grandchildren. Up until his final day, First Baptist Greenville held a special place in his heart. He loved walking the grounds, listening to the steeple bells, praying, and waving to the little children at the Day School.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his two daughters, McLaurin Milford McDonald (Charles III) and Leigh Milford Joye (Rick) along with five grandchildren, Charles Edgar McDonald IV, Mary Ellison Joye, Jane McLaurin McDonald, Morgan Todd Joye, and William Milford McDonald. He is also survived by his brother, Jack McLaurin Milford, and his sister, Jane Milford Cleary, along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Charles Milford.
