Nancy Perry Tanner

Born in Durham, North Carolina, to Onis and Hazel Perry, she attended High Point University and earned a bachelor's degree in Art from East Carolina University. She spent her professional career teaching art in public schools in Raleigh, North Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; and Birmingham, Alabama.

An accomplished artist, Nancy enjoyed working in various media over the years, including constructing exact-scale miniature models of homes complete with working lights and detailed interiors. One of her most significant works was a scale model of the Tabernacle as described in the Bible, which traveled from church to church over the years. She also worked extensively with ostrich eggshells, turning them into incredible works of art. Nancy's God-given artistic abilities shone through in everything she touched.

Nancy will be greatly missed by those she inspired, encouraged, and loved. Her life reflected her love for Jesus and her daily dependence on Him. Throughout her two-year medical journey, she continually encouraged the medical staff and patients she encountered. She blessed everyone she met with her warm spirit, peaceful countenance, and total dependence on the Lord.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles Melvin Tanner. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Kelly; her niece, Laura Kelly Owens (Randall); her nephews, Russ Kelly (Suzanne) and Jeffrey Kelly (Shawna); two great-nephews and five great-nieces. She is also survived by her "bonus" daughter, Melissa Tanner Dietel (Warren); and her "bonus" grandson, Tanner Dietel.

A private graveside service will take place in Timmonsville, SC, on Friday, September 4th.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, with visitation from 2:00-2:45 pm.
