

Patricia "Pat" Anne Alexander McCarthy, age 89, died of complications from Lewy Body Dementia on May 15, 2016, at her home in Orange Park, FL. Patricia is survived by her son John "Jack" Alexander McCarthy, Sr., her daughter-in-law Robin Tribble McCarthy, her grandson John "Alex" Alexander McCarthy, Jr., her granddaughter Carla Weaver McCarthy, and her three great grandsons, all of Orange Park, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Arnold McCarthy, of Greenville, SC. Pat was born on April 28, 1927 in Alexandria, LA to parents Frank Brewer Alexander and Eunice Head Bell Alexander Nash. She graduated from Decatur Girls High in Decatur, GA in 1944. She met the love of her life, "Big Jack" (later to be known as Pepa), in Korea during World War II while serving as a secretary with the Army. They were married in Atlanta, GA in 1947. After working as a secretary in many organizations, Pat and Jack moved to Greenville, SC in the late 1950's. Pat was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Her life was devoted to her son "Jackie" during his swimming, scout, and football years in Greenville. She could always be seen and heard on the side lines. She was then, and until she took her last breath, his biggest cheerleader.Pat (aka Mema) was a social, active woman who was involved in activities like garden clubs, travel, and adventure. During her Charleston years (2000-2010) she deeply enjoyed being a member of the Sweet Magnolia Chapter of the Red Hat Society. According to her grandchildren, her family and friends will always remember her as a talkative and fun-spirited person.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pat's life.
