Mary Patsy (Whitworth) Gilbert, age 80, a long-time resident of Lavonia, and a recent resident of Greenville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
Patsy was born on July 22, 1939 in Stephens County. She was the daughter of the late Hugh W. and Ether Mae (Whitlow) Whitworth.
Patsy graduated from the Lavonia High School and the University of Georgia with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Patsy was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church. She lived her life loving and serving others. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her sweet spirit and gentle southern manners. She loved the outdoors and working on the family farm brought her great joy.
Patsy is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Keith) Williams of Franklin, TN and Tracie Dowis of Simpsonville, SC; three grandchildren, Brady Williams, Madeline Dowis, and Grant Dowis, and the father of her children W. M. Gilbert.
In addition to her parents, Patsy is preceded in death by her brother Shuratt Whitworth, her daughter Cindy Gilbert, and her son-in-law Dee Dowis.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Lavonia First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Chitwood officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
