

Rachael H. Snyder, 90, of Simpsonville, wife of the late J. Wesley Snyder Sr.passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Mary Ellen Parnell Hicks and Oscar Lewis Hicks. Born in 1926, Rachael was one of sixteen children, all of whom predeceased her. In 1943, she graduated from Mills Home in Thomasville, NC. She then moved to Norfolk, VA to work in the Naval Ship Yard, where she met her husband, James Wesley Snyder, Sr. they were married in Deep Creek, VA in 1944. In 1945 she traveled to San Francisco to meet her husband’s ship at the end of WWII. They moved to Greenville, SC, to begin a family. During her work career, she worked at Louis P. Batson Company and Furman University in the computer science department. After leaving Furman in 1976, she spent the rest of her life raising her family and enjoying children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the BYKOTA Club, the Poinsett Club, and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. She was the epitome of Southern hospitality by opening her home to serve and entertain many guests and family at a moment’s notice. She always enjoyed major holidays by preparing meals for her large family. In her last years, she particularly enjoyed long rides to the mountains to enjoy God’s creation.
She is survived by five children, Jimmy Snyder and his wife, Susan; Sharon Baker and her husband, Paul; Ricky Snyder; Beverly Cormican and her husband, John; and Philip Snyder; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Carmen Snyder, J.D. Baker, Jordan Mancici and her husband, Michael, Keri Graves and her husband, Buckley, R.J. Snyder and his wife Andreana, Rachael Cormican, Buddy Cormican, Miller Snyder, J. Wesley Snyder III, Bonner Snyder and Ben Snyder; great-grandchildren Walker Mancini, Rae Graves, Ellie Mancini, Buck Graves, and Sarah Leighton Snyder; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville SC, with burial following in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Greenville Rescue Mission, 575 Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601.
