Born on July 4, 1956, Randy lived a life of purpose, deeply loving God's Word and respecting God's will. His life was a testament to his faith, always more concerned with the things of God and helping others in their daily walk. Randy planted seeds of the gospel everywhere he went, through acts of service, prayer, support, and sharing God’s Word. He had an amazing ability to remember scripture and apply it to life’s situations, helping others see the relevance of faith in their lives. Randy believed in Jesus as the Son of God, repented of his sins, and is now with Jesus for eternity.
Randy's journey in faith began when he surrendered his life to Christ as a young boy. He was an incredible wrestler in high school, on a path to winning a state title before a broken arm shifted his focus. This event was pivotal, leading him to rededicate his life to Christ and set his future course in ministry.
Randy met his wife, Julee Scering, in church, where his father, Max Paddock, was the pastor. The first time she walked into church he saw her and said, “I’m going to marry that girl.” Two years later after Julee graduated High School in May of 1976 they were wed on August 14, 1976.
Randy attended Midwest Bible College in Danville, Illinois, for three years before transferring to Pensacola Christian College in 1977 where he developed his faith as God prepared him for ministry.
In 1979, he and his brothers, Steve and Darrell, began singing. Their first time singing in public was at their sister Pam's wedding, which marked the beginning of Homeward Bound Ministries. For 32 years, they faithfully served God's kingdom, sharing the gospel to 1000’s of people around the world in places like Israel, the Philippines, Ukraine, and China. Their ministry was primarily regional in the Midwest but extended throughout the US at times. He felt that their ministry was to edify the body of Christ, to help them finish the race, and to strengthen their faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
In 1980 they had their first son Joshua followed in 1983 with their second son John Mark who ended up marrying two daughters of his best friend since childhood Arlin (Ashlynd) Hughes.
At home, Randy worked as a dental lab technician for over 30 years with his father-in-law, Richard Scering, forming a close father-like bond. This job enabled him to support his ministry while spending time with his family. Randy loved playing baseball and golf with his two sons, Joshua and John Mark and was always present in their lives. His favorite foursome on the golf course was adding his nephew Uriah and he only wanted to play Captains Choice with the four of us. His favorite golf tradition was going to play in the family tournament in Zionsville Indiana on the 4th of July. He also loved spending every moment with his beloved wife Julee. His life was centered on serving others, embodying the true spirit of a servant of God. He often said, "Our job as servants of Christ is to plant and water seeds; God gives the increase."
In 2012, Randy and Julee moved from Covington, Indiana, to Greenville, South Carolina, to be closer to their sons, daughters-in-law’s, and grandchildren. He joined Aspen Dental as a lab technician, developing many strong bonds and friendships.
Here in the last 13 years he developed a loving bond with his 9 grandchildren where he ministered to their hearts in a way they will never forget.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Julee Paddock; his sons, Joshua (Amy) Paddock and John Mark (Anna) Paddock; his 9 grandchildren, Amali, Charli, Piper, Elin, Noah, Micah, Isla, Isaiah, and Ruby; his mother, Alice Joyce Paddock; his siblings, Darrell (Kim) Paddock, Pamela (Andrew) Harkleroad, Chuck (Lori) Paddock; and his in-laws, Leona Paddock, Kim Allen, and Susan Julian. He was predeceased by his father, Leston Max Paddock, and his brother, Steven (Leona) Paddock.
Randy's life was a testament to his faith, love, and unwavering dedication to serving others. He leaves behind a legacy of genuine love and faithful service to God and his community, touching countless lives with his ministry and devotion.
A visitation for Randy will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at NewSpring Church, 625 S Pleasantburg Dr. Greenville, SC 29607 followed by a funeral at 2:00 PM.
