Rebecca G. Carter

Becky graduated from Barnwell High School and earned an associate’s degree from Limestone College. During her time at Limestone, she met her husband, Bob Carter, a native of Gaffney who had traveled from Clemson for a dance. Bob became the love of her life, and their marriage endured for nearly 68 years until his passing in January 2026.

Becky was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was loved by all her family. She set an example for us all by volunteering in the church and the community. She volunteered in many capacities in Greenville Public schools, supporting her children there. She was involved in the National Federation of Women’s Clubs through the Greenville Junior Woman’s Club and served on both the local and state level as an officer. Becky loved music and shared her talents in many ways. She was a member and Past President of the Crescent Music Club and received its highest honor when she was named and Honorary Lifetime Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She also served as a volunteer with the Metropolitan Arts Council, giving tours around Greenville to visitors and to classes from the public schools. This was a perfect place for Becky as she could talk to anyone and make them feel welcome. She was a consummate hostess and loved to entertain.

After her kids went to college, she became an accomplished tennis player, playing for the Greenville Country Club. She and her teammates won several tournaments in their division.

A former member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, she sang in the Adult Choir for over twenty years. She directed the Middle School Choir, accompanied the youth choir and played in the handbell choir. She served the Women of the Church as a Circle Member, various offices and President. She was ordained as an Elder at John Knox. After she and Bob joined First Presbyterian, she continued to serve the Lord by singing in the choir there and attending Circle.

Becky is survived by her daughter, Julie Carter Schaaf (Danny) and son, Michael Carter (Debbie); four grandchildren, Katie Kelley, Carter Schaaf (Catie), Mary Margaret Robertson (Cody) and Matthew Carter (Kellee), all of Greenville; and six great grandchildren, Hayden Jackson, Douglas Kelley, Millie Cate Carter, Charlotte Carter, Daniel Schaaf, and Ellie Robertson; one sister, Judy Hatfield of Sumter and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville in the Abbott Gathering Space, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.
