Richard John Campbell, 72, of Greer, passed away on February 22, 2020 surrounded by love and affection from his wife Dottie, his son Shane and his daughters Aubrey and Lindsay following a brief illness. Born in Jamaica, New York, Richard’s family moved to Palm Beach County, FL where he grew up and graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1965. He later moved to South Carolina and earned his BS in Business from the University of South Carolina. He retired from Clemson University after 40 plus years of government service. During his time there, he became a devoted Tigers fan (much to the chagrin of his daughters) and enjoyed attending football games with his forever friends.
Richard also loved spending time by the water watching the sun set, fishing with his brothers and friends, relaxing with the love of his life, Dottie, at Fripp Island and enjoying his children and grandchildren at Ponte Vedra Beach in the summer. He was passionate about political issues and always enjoyed a spirited debate.
Most of all, Richard loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dottie Taylor Campbell; his children, Shane Campbell (Aimee), Aubrey Cartwright and Lindsay Youngblood (Bo); adored grandchildren, Brand, Colin and Drew Campbell, Bryce, Banks and Ella Cartwright, and Campbell Youngblood; beloved siblings, Barbara Roth, Michael (Kathy Jo) Campbell, Janice (John) Zaehring, Meg Campbell and Stephen (Celeste) Campbell as well as countess nieces and nephews.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, John and Peggy (Mobbs) Campbell and his sister, Dale Sell.
Services honoring Richard’s life will be held on Friday, March 6, at 2 PM at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC with a reception following.
Donations can be made to FAVOR Greenville, 355 Woodruff Road, Suite 303 - Greenville, SC 29607, an organization close to Richard’s heart.
