

Richard was born in Greenville on November 28, 1944 to William Francis Guthrie Sr. and Emma Ethel Ledford Guthrie.
After graduating high school, Richard joined the United States Air Force and was a fighter jet engine mechanic in the Vietnam War. After returning home, he became a heating and air conditioning contractor and later started his own HVAC business which his son runs today. In 1973 he gave his life to Christ and became an avid student of the Word of God. In 1999 Richard answered the call to dedicate his life to full time ministry and was the founding pastor of Faith Family Fellowship. He retired from his position in 2023. He loved to play guitar, tell amazing stories, spend time with family and friends and show the love of Jesus to people of all walks of life.
Richard’s family meant the world to him. His heart and soul was his wife Joyce Ann Guthrie. They were married for 56 years and loved each other dearly. He is survived by children Angela Johnson (Allan) of Greenville and Jason Guthrie (Jennifer) of Greenville; grandchild, Tyler Benner. In addition, Richard loved countless friends and congregation members as his own family.
He was preceded by 7 brothers, William Francis Guthrie Jr., Leonard Nathan Guthrie, Grady Bryan Guthrie (Joe), Kelvin Isaiah Guthrie (Mickey), David Samuel Guthrie, James Ellis Ray Guthrie (Jimmy) and Naaman Earle Guthrie.
A memorial service will be held for Richard on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:30 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Dr, Greenville, SC 29607, followed by a visitation for the family at 2:45.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made as monetary gifts to the widow, Joyce Guthrie.
