Robby will be remembered as a faithful follower of Jesus, a loving husband, a hilarious father, and a sweet-hearted grandfather. He was known for his quick wit and his quick hands in the boxing ring.
Robby’s childhood was spent moving throughout multiple states as the son of enlisted serviceman Silas Epps and his mother Cassie Epps. He graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 1976 and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a professional boxing career. Robby earned an impressive record of 31 wins and 4 losses, facing notable opponents including Dwight Davidson and Tony Ayala. In April of 2013, Robby was inducted into the Carolinas’ Boxing Hall of Fame.
While living in Los Angeles, Robby met the love of his life, Arlene Grace. The two married on July 21, 1984, and built a beautiful life together, welcoming three children, Sean, Casey, and Tiffany, and sharing nearly 42 years of love and partnership.
After his career in boxing, Robby worked in the printing industry for companies like Western Lithograph and Anderson Lithograph. He worked in the Bindery Dept of Anderson Lithograph for almost 25 years. The Bindery Dept of Anderson Lithograph was unionized and while employed at Anderson Lithograph, Robby also served as a Shop Steward where he represented his fellow employees on behalf of the Graphic Communications Union.
In addition to his full-time employment at Anderson Lithograph, Robby aspired to be a licensed Real Estate Agent. He accomplished that goal by enrolling into a Real Estate Agent licensing program, and thereafter passed the board exam for the State of California Dept of Real Estate, thereby becoming a licensed Realtor. He worked for two real estate agencies under the Century 21 franchise until 2010.
Amongst his other goals, Robby had an idea of starting a fitness/boxing program for children and teens. He approached a Director of an LA City Park with that idea and the program was approved by the City of Los Angeles. He began the first program at Panorama Parks and Recreation Center in Panorama City, CA. He worked at that park part-time for many years as a fitness/boxing coach for children and teens teaching them discipline, confidence and perseverance in the sport he loved.
Of all his accomplishments, Robby considered the most important one to be that of becoming an ordained Deacon in a Baptist church serving the Lord in ministry. He served as a Deacon for both Wilshire Baptist Church in Los Angeles and First Baptist Church of Granada Hills. He served the Lord with gladness and loved to do evangelism work by going door to door talking to people about Christ and inviting them to church.
In the later years of his life, the physical toll of boxing caught up with Robby, and he battled Alzheimer’s disease caused by chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Through every stage of his illness, Arlene cared for him with unwavering love, compassion, and faith until his very last breath.
Robby’s legacy is one of strength, laughter, perseverance, and deep love for his family and his Savior. He fought courageously in the ring, but his greatest victories were the relationships he built and the faith he carried throughout his life.
Robby is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Arlene Epps; his children and their families: son Sean Epps and his wife, Jen, and their children, Kai, Nixon, and Remy; son Casey Epps; and daughter Tiffany Banner and her husband, Benjamin, and their children, Blaise, Silas, and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Tony and Sharon Epps, Wanda Epps, Ronny and Kay Epps, Lonny and Karla Epps, and his sister-in-law, Stephanie Epps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Cassie Epps, and his brother, Randy Epps.
To honor Robby, a Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:30 am. A graveside service will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
