Bob spent his childhood in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Franklin Lane High School. After high school, Bob went to work for Moore Brothers Meat Company. Shortly thereafter, he opened a limousine service and bar. Bob later married the late Dorothy Gilliom, and years later married the late Sandra Gilliom.
In the late 1970’s, Bob moved from Brooklyn NY to Plainfield NJ where he opened two businesses: a limousine company and a night club as a successful business owner. Over time, Bob became more involved with helping the city of Plainfield than running his businesses. This would also be the beginning of his public service career with the Plainfield Police Department.
Bob later moved to Newark, NJ where he worked as head of security for a prominent insurance company, in conjunction with serving as auxiliary police officer for the Plainfield Police Department.
After serving 30 years with the city of Plainfield, NJ (April 1982 – October 2012), Bob retired as an Auxiliary Police Captain. Bob also worked as Security Manager for SBLI National Insurance (Newark Office) from 2004 -2012. When the SBLI Newark office shut down in 2012, Bob retired and relocated to Asbury Park, NJ where he spent most of his time enjoying the things he loved doing, such as watching old westerns and spending time with family and long-time friends.
Bob was well known and respected by all who knew him. He was soft spoken, kind and gentle. Bob was a patriarch for the Plainfield Auxiliary Police officers and his family.
Bob is survived by: loving sister, Athan Anderson, (her adult children); children, Robert C. Gilliom, (Tina), Karen Byrd, Deanna Feliciano (Antonio), Joey Gilliom (Diane), Russell Gilliom, Richard Gilliom, Valerie Hodges (Kevin), Diamond, Tracey, Crystal, and Justice; long-time friend, Bruce Hodges (Stella); loyal companion, Cheryl Hodges-Butts; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives, as well as an abundance of friends.
