
“Bob” (as he was known) was only son of parents Clifford H. Wootten and Irma Krook of New Hyde Park, New York. Bob was born in Mineola, NY in Nassau County on New York’s Long Island on December 11, 1926.
Bob enlisted in the US Marines in March 1945 and reported for boot camp at the US Marine Corps training facility at Parris Island, South Carolina.
He completed his training at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in southern California before being assigned to the transport ship USS General William Mitchell (AP-114) which was manned by the US Coast Guard during WWII. As part of the “Magic Carpet fleet”, the William Mitchell transport ship carried sailors from San Francisco to the Philippines, and troops from the Philippines and Guam to San Francisco, through the spring of 1946.

After his stint in the service, Bob worked at the Mountain Lake Camp located in Connecticut in 1948.
In the 1950s Mr. Wootten had a summer job at the Creme Queen ice cream stand on Pantigo Road in East Hampton (later called the A&B Snowflake).
Bob and Rosalie Strong (from East Hampton, NY) were married August 17, 1950 in Sag Harbor, NY, in what used to be called “The People’s Baptist Church”.
Bob received a Degree of Bachelor of Arts from Houghton College in June 1951.
Bob received the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of exceptional leadership and devoted service to Huntington Christian School 1964-1984.
He served as the Chairman of the Board Of Education at HCS in Huntington Station, NY. He also served on the Board of Deacons of the West Hills Baptist Church.
Bob worked over 30 years for LILCO (the Long Island Lighting Company) and worked in the operation analysis department as a section supervisor.
Several summer vacations were spent with close friends (Al & Gladys Bullock and family), at Camp-Of-The-Woods, in Speculator, NY.
Bob and Rosalie moved from Long Island to the Greenville, S.C., area in 1985, and became charter members of Community Baptist Church.
After his retirement, Bob enjoyed “surfing the net” on his laptop computer and consistently rooted for the Atlanta Braves. He was also an active member of the local Home Owners Association board.
Mr. Wootten is survived by his two sons, David R. Wootten of Taylors, S.C. and Paul D. Wootten of Greenville, S.C. Mr. Wootten was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie, of 62 years. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews back on the East Coast, mostly on Long Island. Two of them, MaryBeth and Phil Skitt attended Bob Jones University and encouraged the Woottens to move to the Greenville area.
On Saturday, July 6th, 2019 at 1 pm, a visitation is scheduled at Community Baptist Church, Greer, S.C. with memorial service following at 2 pm.
