He was born on December 1,1931 in Presque Isle, ME. Roy was the son of Roy Barton Sr and Maude Anderson Barton. He was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church for over four decades. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1953. At that time, he joined the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge after 4 years of service. He then moved back to ME and joined the Aroostook Trust Company where he served for 17 years as Vice President, Treasurer, and member of the Executive Committee. While there he was a member of the United Baptist Church of Caribou where he served as a deacon, youth leader, and young married couples’ leader. Roy was active in the local Caribou community as President of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Development, city councilmen as well as Mayor of Caribou, a position that he resigned when the family moved to Greenville SC in 1974. Roy went to work at Bob Jones University as their Chief Financial Officer. He retired in 2004 but continued to work part time in the University’s Advancement Office. He also served on the boards of Gospel Fellowship Association, BJU Museum & Gallery and Genesis Marketing Group.
Roy was predeceased by his wife, Joyce McDaniel Barton. He is survived by his daughters Debbie Reem (Marvin) of Sweet Valley, PA and Paula Barton of Taylors, SC and grandchildren Melanie Taylor (Tim) of Granbury, TX and Michael Reem (Sarah) of Sweet Valley, PA. Roy also leaves behind great grandchildren Bailey, Dabney and Finley Taylor and Silas, Isaiah, Annabeth, Malachi, Naomi and Caleb Reem. In addition, Roy is survived by his youngest sister, Betty Tompkins of Greenville, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings Joyce Blackstone, Phyllis Blackstone, Sherwood Barton, and Gloria Dinsmore predeceased him. He is also survived by his brother-in law Wayne (Pat) McDaniel of Caribou, ME.

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM outside the chapel at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC, 29609. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Roy’s nephew Steve Tompkins will be officiating the service.
