Ruby Grubbs Denny Vaughn

House following several months of declining health. She was ninety-two years old. Ruby was the daughter of the late Major L. and Maggie Cole Grubbs formerly of Lyman. She was preceded in death by her husbands Orville E. Denny and Donald C. Vaughn, a brother Carl L. Grubbs and her son Bryan L. Denny. She is survived by her sister Bernice Grubbs Robbins, three daughters Cathy Denny Pilgrim (Earl) of Greenville, Susan Denny Burke (Frank) of Irmo, and Sandra Denny Erickson of Honolulu .

She was a 1946 graduate of Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing and the recipient of the Holms Trophy for best all around graduate. During her training she was a member of the Army Nurse Cadet Corp. After graduation, she was the office manager and nurse for Dr. J. E. Crosland in West Greenville. She managed her nursing career around the needs of her family. She worked on the pediatric unit at Greenville General Hospital, Grady Hipp Skilled Nursing Facility and Stroud Memorial. She retired from Shriners Hospital.

She was a 63 year plus member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, the Sammeth - Broadnax Sunday School Class and Circle Number Two. She was also a long time member of the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association.

A service will be held in the Chapel at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 3:30pm with a private burial to follow. A visitation will precede the service at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 306 N. Franklin Rd., Greenville, SC 29609, Meals on Wheels or the charity of one’s choice.
