She is predeceased by her husband, Denvel O. Whitmire, her parents, William Earle and Nealie Chapman, her brothers, Harold H. Chapman, Dewey O. Chapman and Jimmy Lee Chapman, and sisters, Bertha M. Chapman, Frances E. Campbell and Ann Marie Chapman.
She is survived by her son, Dallas B. Whitmire, of Greenville S.C. and daughter, Sharon W. McGrath (Edward), of Midlothian, Va., 11 grandchildren and 8 great –grandchildren, a brother Loyd Briscoe Chapman of Easley, South Carolina, a sister, Mildred C. Barber currently residing in South Korea and many nieces and nephews that she held dear to her heart.
Ruby was born in Pickens County, South Carolina, on August 14, 1921. After graduating from the Opprtunity School, then located at Clemson University, she attended Lander College receiving her B.S. in Biology and later her Master’s Degree from Furman University. Mrs. Whitmire was a former school teacher and guidance counselor for the Greenville County School District and a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church.
She was a woman of many talents and extreme kindness and compassion. She will be missed by all that knew her.
A visitation with Ruby's family will be held from 1:00PM-1:45PM Saturday December 15, 2018 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville SC, 29609. A funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00PM in The Chapel at the Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Burial will follow services in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
