Sam was raised at Shaw’s Crossroads in Sumter, S.C. and was the son of Edward Judson Pringle and Melle Rice Pringle. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Katherine Paul (Kitty) Pringle, his brother Edward Judson Pringle, Jr., and his sister Melle Pringle Sanders (Conrad).
Sam attended Edmonds High School, Presbyterian College and Clemson University. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and the Korean War and was often seen proudly wearing his military service cap as a veteran of those wars.
After his military service, Sam enjoyed a long career in sales and as a principal in Southern Coatings & Chemical Company. He continued his sales career in the paint, paint sundries and flooring industries after his time at Southern Coatings.
Most important to him was his faith and the time he spent with his family. He treasured the time he spent at Lyman Lake and on family beach trips, both when his own children were young and as a grandparent in later years. Family time was what he enjoyed most.
Sam was known for his low country brogue, which family and friends enjoyed and his grandchildren often tried to imitate. He was proud of being a veteran, his Scottish heritage, and his love of Clemson where he held a famous tailgate at “Pa’s Camper” and rarely missed a football or basketball game. Sam enjoyed coaching youth sports and was often recognized by former players which brought him great joy.
He enjoyed the game of golf throughout his life. He played with co-workers, customers and friends alike. He was a member of Pebble Creek Country Club, playing there and at many other courses with his long-standing golf group. He also enjoyed playing with children, grandchildren and other family members.
He was a lifelong Episcopalian and a founding member of St. Francis Episcopal Church where he served as Senior Warden, was a member of the vestry, and served in numerous other capacities over the years. In later years he attended and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses Linda P. Owings (Steve), Susie P. Ingles (John) and Samuel McBride (Chip) Pringle, Jr. (Kathrin) and his treasured companion for many years Kaye Warren. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Matt Owings (Jessie), Stephanie O’Neal (William), Currie Wyatt (Brandon), Jay Ingles (Taylor), Sally Nesemeier (Alex), Andy Ingles, Trey Pringle (Camila), Lauren Land (Thomas), and Genna Stone (Cory). Sam was also great grandfather to Scottie O’Neal, Hadley O’Neal, Waylon Land, Ellison Land, Kate Wyatt, Wilson Wyatt, John Ingles, IV, Max Stone and Eloise Owings. He also enjoyed a close bond with Kaye’s children and grandchildren.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family extends our thanks to Kathy Ochoa whose kindness, compassion and loving care for Sam brought a light to our lives and especially to him. We also give special thanks to Candice Richardson, Tracy Massey, Maria Londono, Shakeia (Keia) Griffin and Didrika (Drika) Adkins for the compassionate care they provided to Sam in his final days.
