Stella Benson

Stella was active in her community, belonging to many organizations over the years. She and her husband were founding members of the Herkimer County ARC. She loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. She had many talents including golfing, decorating, knitting, quilt making, jewelry design, floral arranging, gardening, and landscape design. Stella loved all things beautiful and she especially loved time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Janis Gillespie (Jim) of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Jill Van Steenburgh (Scott) of Greenville, South Carolina and sons Jon Benson (Rebecca) of Newburyport, Massachusetts and James Benson (Heidi) of Ilion, New York. Stella was loved by thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years John Andrew Benson, her son Jay Benson, her parents, and her five sisters and two brothers.

A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Saturday April 12th at 2:00 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, South Carolina 29609. Internment will be at a later date in Herkimer, New York.

Donations can be made to Breast Cancer Research or the American Cancer Society in memory of Stella.
