Susan Malone Schwab

Susan was born to be a mother and grandmother—protective, supportive, loving, and endlessly funny. Her kindness knew no boundaries, and her smile could light up a room. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone, especially children, feel loved. Her strength was unmatched, and she faced life with courage, grace, faith, and an endless positive spirit.

Born in Atlanta to Ray and Miriam Malone, Susan spent her childhood in Atlanta and Summit, New Jersey. She graduated from Ohio University, where she was a cheerleader, student council member, and president of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She remained devoted to her Pi Phi sisters throughout her life. Following her calling as a teacher, she built a career as a Speech Pathologist in Kansas City and Greenville, later earning her master’s degree in Speech with honors.

In 1981, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Schwab. Their 45-year romance was filled with love, laughter, adventures, and a family they cherished above all else.

Susan is survived by Bob; her children, Carrie Bortz, Stacey Ramay (Jeff), Brock Koonce (Staci), Robert E. Schwab Jr. (Lauren), and Chris Schwab (Mindy); eight grandchildren; and her brother, Ray Malone (Linda). She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Carolyn Hudspeth.

A devoted member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Susan lived her faith through love and forgiveness. She survived breast cancer with quiet courage and never lost her sense of humor. Her laughter, stories, impeccable style, love of family, and beloved dogs will never be forgotten.

Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Susan lived those words beautifully.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on August 14, 2026, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 3710 Augusta Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.
