Terry was a devoted and honorable man whose life was grounded in faith, family, and love for his country. His unwavering beliefs and strong moral compass guided him throughout his life.
Born and raised in Greenville County, Terry was the beloved son of the late Cole and Eula Gentry. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Roger, and his sister, Shirley. Terry shared a beautiful life with his wife, Mary, to whom he was married for 52 years. Together, they celebrated each day in the joy of the Lord and created a loving home.
One of Terry’s greatest joys in life was his family. He was the proud father of Cindi, Elizabeth (Ray), Jody (Shannon), and Tim (Kimber). His legacy continues through his twelve grandchildren: Janna, Jessica, Trinity, Ashley, Lauren, Jordan, Chase, Baileigh, Nick, Cole, Cale, and Noah. His love multiplied with 9 great-grandchildren, including Madison, John, Holden, Casmir, Jennings, Finnley, Bridie, Jagger, and RJ. Terry cherished being their “Papa” and took immense pride in his role as a grandfather and great- grandfather.
Terry’s best friend was his twin brother, Jerry. The two shared an unbreakable bond and walked through life together with unwavering loyalty and love. Terry is also survived by his sweet niece, Susan, his nephews Joey and Jeffrey, and many beloved cousins.
For 50 years, Terry dedicated himself to the transportation industry, driving a tractor-trailer with pride and professionalism. He retired from Southeastern Freightlines, where he built lasting friendships and meaningful connections. His work ethic and friendly spirit left a lasting impact on those around him.
Terry also had a loyal companion in his dog, Duncan. For the past two years, Duncan remained faithfully by Terry’s side through illness, standing guard until his master’s journey was complete.
Terry Gentry’s life was one of purpose, love, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, strength of character, and a heart full of compassion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Terry's Life will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Brookwood Church, 580 Brookwood Point Pl, Simpsonville, SC 29681. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Brookwood.
