Wow, this is hard but necessary . Archie was like an adopted brother. I was 25 and Archie was 16, I can remember our first encounters in Shek Kong camp in Hong Kong. I a missionary and Archie seeking a new country to call home. I was amazed of his outgoing personality. His witty personality. His smarts. How easily he learned the English language. A very studious young man. I think that Archie never stopped learning. Archie( Tuan) will be so greatly missed! He lived with my parents in Greenville and was a link between the Vietnamese Community and the U.S.
Why this is so hard is because Archie and myself and others, spoke at my Dad’s memorial service. That was June of 2019. I imagine them talking together in heaven.

We love you Archie, forever in our hearts!

As a hospital interpreter, I worked closely with Archie's company. I would quite regularly call Archie to request an interpreter for another language. He would always answer the phone, "Dr. Jay!" I enjoyed getting to know him, even over the phone. It was also a delight to study at the same seminary. He would ask me questions about my classes and professors. Thank you, Archie, for your kind heart and diligent service!

Archie was a friend of mine, we met in 2004. I always admired his drive to improve himself and his community.
Education was so very important to him and I was ecstatic when he received his PhD in 2019.
Through the years, we shared funny and frustrating moments when talking about life as interpreters.
His sense of humor was amazing but his compassionate heart was even more amazing…

I have included him in my daily prayers and I smile when I say his last name.
Many years ago, we sat together as he was trying to teach me how to pronounce it.
After a few times, he looked at me and he said ‘close enough, Miss Julia. You rock!’…

To say Archie will be missed is an understatement…
For those who knew him, his smile and kind demeanor will always stay with us.
I am glad our paths crossed….

May he rest in Peace.

I will miss you Rev. Archie, I miss you this is true. You filled me with so much joy, every time I encountered you. I wish our encounters were longer as work was always lingering near. I will hold you in my heart and your smile I hold so dear. I will always remember how you reached out in hopes of teaming up more together in our shared work. I will miss you, Archie-You were a light in this world and I will miss you dearly.

Archie was one of the kindest and most thoughtful individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always went out of his way and took time to speak to me. His smiles and happiness were contagious and could brighten any dark day. His work was devoted to graciously serving others! My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. His sweet soul will be greatly missed!

Archie, I was proud to call you a colleague and a friend. Over many years, we often talked of the challenges of working in language services and the critical importance of good communication for all patients regardless of the languages they did or did not speak or understand. You helped so many who could not speak English and helped many more who needed a laugh, a word of advice, or comfort in difficult times. Your service, your smile, and your presence will long be remembered and appreciated.
