

Vera Lane Griffin, 95, of Greenville, SC went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2017. She was the daughter of the late D. B. Verdin, Sr. and Annie McAbee Verdin. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville.
Vera grew up in Five Forks Community. From her parents, she inherited a love of music and, from a young age, she mastered piano playing. She earned degrees in music from Winthrop College and Vanderbuilt University.
In 1946 while working at the University of Georgia, she met and married John A. Griffin. In 1947, they had their only child and named him John Lane Griffin. Upon her husband’s graduation from Georgia, they began teaching at schools in South Georgia and Western North Carolina before finally settling down among her family in Greenville County. She taught music at Hillcrest Middle School in Greenville County and Byrnes High School in Spartanburg County.
Vera is survived by her son, John Lane Griffin (Laurie); her grandchildren, Matthew John Griffin (Olivia), Abigail Griffin Wyatt (Nate); her great-grandchildren, Amelia Ruth Griffin and David McAbee Griffin; her sisters, Welthy Verdin Senn and Wilma Verdin Cagle; her brother, Daniel Byron Verdin, Jr. (Eloise); and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 1:00pm in the sanctuary at Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville, 105 River St. The family will receive friends and family in the sanctuary after the service.
