Veronica Dee Lucas, nee Jennings was born December 1, 1950 in Peoria, Illinois. The youngest daughter of J.D. and Ella Jennings, Veronica grew to become a Registered Nurse, specializing in NICU, caring for the smallest and most helpless of lives. While living in Miami, Florida, she married Gary F. Lucas and had three sons: Gary Evan, Matthew Gregory and James Hampton. Relocating to Greenville, South Carolina, Veronica continued her nursing career as well as becoming co-owner of a small gift basket store. She achieved her lifelong ambition of moving to Anchorage, Alaska in 2000 where she lived for the next two decades.
She passed away in the early afternoon of May 17, 2026. She is survived by her three sons, their spouses and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the World Wildlife Fund, to adopt either a bear or an owl in her memory or to The Alzheimer’s Association.
There will be a memorial for Veronica on Friday, May 22 at 7pm at Unity Church of Greenville located at 207 E. Belvue Rd, Taylors, SC 29687.
