Walter was born in Greenville, SC to the late Ann and Walter Davenport on October 2, 1942. Walter was a lifelong resident of Greenville.
He was a graduate of University of South Carolina. He worked over 40 years for Delta Woodside and owned a successful family business.
Walter will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor; if you knew Wonderful Wally, you loved him. He was a friend to everyone he met. He never met a stranger.
He was an avid gardener, and lover of John Wayne, beach music and everything Gamecock. Walter had a charitable heart and enjoyed helping others.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jenny Davenport; daughter, Lisa Green; son, Lance Davenport; and grandchildren Austin, Bailey, Ayden, and Nevie.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Angie Davenport, and sisters Felicia Ann Johnson and Sheryl Wallsmith.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive Chapel. A visitation will be held prior to service from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. A private burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
