William N. Barber Jr. (Bill/Butch) husband of Teresa Gravley Barber for 32 years, passed away on Sunday November 10, 2019 after many years of declining health at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson South Carolina.
He was the son of the late William N. Barber and Gladys Baldwin King, and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Barber was a former member of the U S Army. He retired as owner of Barber Plumbing Company in 1997. He was a Life Member of the Striper Kings fishing club of Greenville SC and member of several other local striper fishing clubs. He raced Dirt Tracks in the 70’s and early 80’s at various tracks in SC and GA throughout his racing career.
Surviving are sons Nolan W. Merritt and Nathan E. Merritt and his wife Rena of Simpsonville. A sister, Frances Miller and her husband Ken of Easley. Grandchildren: Ella, Maggie, Walter and Charlotte Merritt; father-in-law, Billy Gravley of Walhalla; brother-in-law, Gene Gravley and his wife Sandy of Westminster. In addition he is survived by a numerous of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters: Betty Tolbert, Vivian Pringle, Peggy Barnes and Carolyn Gornto; brothers Richard, Bobby and Jerry King and mother-in-law Margene Gravley.
Graveside service will be held at Greenville Memorial Gardens on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the gravesite after the service.
