Bill graduated from Greenville High, where he made many lifelong friends and excelled in scholastics, football, and baseball, although a serious football injury prevented any further endeavors in sports.
He continued his education at USC, and always remained the consummate SAE die hard Gamecock fan. Following USC, Bill attended the Medical University School of Dental Medicine, and afterwards he practiced general dentistry in Greenville for forty years.
Bill’s personality was one of a kind: witty, quick, sarcastic, but at the same time loving, kind, and very, very generous. A self-taught piano player, and a smooth dancer, he was the life of the party. However, his first love was fishing--for anyone who visited his dental office, that was certainly evident in the quality of the dentures placed in his mounted bass.
He is survived by his children Teresa Goodlett Strait (Will), William Ward Goodlett III (Gabrielle), and their mother Victoria Goodlett. He has three grandchildren: Sidney and Jude Strait and Gabrielle Goodlett, whom he called GG. He was predeceased by his second wife Catherine Haynes as well as his parents.
He is also survived by two sisters Gail Goodlett McDaniel (Allen), and Stella Goodlett Bobotis (Harry), one brother Harold Gregory Goodlett, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His service will be held at the chapel at First Baptist Greenville on Saturday, December 17th, at 11 am, with a committal following in the columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
