
The son of Dr. William C. Taylor, Sr. and Elizabeth Womble Taylor, he was predeceased by two older sisters, Elizabeth Taylor Smith (Horace Ted) and Nancy Taylor Bost (Charles Carroll, III). Bill had the privilege to be married to two lovely wives, Lois Arrowood Taylor and Doris Farnsworth Gilbert Taylor, both whom he loved dearly. He was extremely proud of the fact that he was married over thirty years to each spouse. Bill adored and is survived by three children and two step-children. They are W.C . Taylor, III (Carolyn Bell), Ann Arrowood Taylor Morgan (James Scott, deceased), Robert Erskine Taylor, Rebecca Gilbert Phillips (Johnny), and Julia Gilbert Cote (Patrick). Bill is survived also by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and “Pop” loved them all.
In 1944, Bill graduated Boyden High School where he excelled in football, was team Captain and played in the 1944 Shrine Bowl. After high school, Bill served in the US Navy as a Seaman aboard the USS Fechteler until the end of WWII. Upon leaving the military, Bill returned to school and played center for the Catawba College Football Team. He graduated Catawba in 1950. Bill spent his work life for over 50 years in textile-related and brake system production management. Bill was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, mostly attending First UMC in Salisbury, NC and Aldersgate UMC in Greenville, SC. He was a member of the Free Masons in both Carolinas. Bill was an avid vegetable gardener; raspberries, tomatoes and okra were his specialties. He thoroughly took pleasure in water life on the lake, boating and skiing. Bill was the family amateur barber and his haircut stylings changed over the decades and generations! He enjoyed woodworking and giving projects as gifts. Bill was a devoted donor to the Red Cross and donated gallons throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood in his memory or contributing to the charity of your choice. A service celebrating the life of Bill will be held at a later date due to the COVID pandemic.
