WIlliam H (Bill) Walker, born Nov. 15 1928, went to heaven on 8 April.

Bill is survived by his 3 children Len Walker (Kathy) of Greensboro NC, Jim Walker (Nancy) of Boone NC, and Dianne Poston (Jim) of Simpsonville. Bill was born in Laurens, SC and served in the Navy during WW II. After the war he graduated from Clemson in 1952 in textile Engineering. Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed participating in the Agape Sunday School class and was also a regular at the Men’s Bible fellowship on Friday mornings. He was a dedicated husband and father, and a true car buff. He always kept a stable of cars and took joy in being one of the few 92 year olds driving a Corvette. Bill had great energy to the end and an ever present sly smile.

I was so lucky to have been Bill’s neighbor for eighteen years. I will always remember our talks outside between our houses, and our discussions about his cars he loved so dearly. He was always so kind to ask about my daughter and how she was doing at Clemson. I will miss his kind smile and our laughs. Heaven gained a great man.
Sincerely,
Mary Gilden

I had the pleasure of being neighbors with Bill. He could talk for hours at a time and kept the conversation lively. His family was mentioned in every encounter.

I never heard him talk bad about anyone. He always kept a smile on his face and a contagious joyful spirit.

Bill Walker was a friend to many. I called him “my best friend”. I called him that because he displayed to me everything that goes with that title. “Best friend” is exceptional and that’s what he was to me! After meeting him we worked together for about 15 years. I learned that he was not only an estute technician but also a very skilled salesman. He made friends with all who came to know him and his technical expertise was well known throughout the trade. He was never a quitter. He didn’t give up on anything. One of his trademarks. After his retirement from Abco Industries we shared many memorable experiences , on the golf course, fishing and having lunch almost every week at our favorite “watering hole”. We could talk for hours and leave room for more. We shared life experiences known only to us. I frivolously called him Doctor Bill, a take off on Dr. Phil because he was always ready with a bit of advice and a sympathetic ear. We shared life experiences known only to us.
Bill spoke of his family every time we talked. He was proud of all of them and didn’t hesitate to make it known. To say that Bill will be missed is an understatement. Missed by me and many others. Yes, the world would be a much better place with more Bill Walkers. I will miss seeing him drive up in that sleek Corvette, walk out with a quick step, a little swagger and an ever present smile on his face. God rest your soul my friend!

Just how meaningful the friendship of Bill Walker has been to me and my wife Mary Todd these past 30 years can't be fully expressed. We have shared countless meals, opinions and quality time together. Though 21 years my senior, I always considered him among my closest friends and confidants. His example of friendship, integrity and compassion for everyone will always be with me. God Speed Old Friend! You were the best!!!

I had the privilege of accompanying Bill on the Honor Flights trip to Washington D.C in 2016 when I was a senior in high school. I remember when my dad and I picked him up at his house that morning, he was waiting at the mailbox with the biggest smile on his face despite it being 6:00 in the morning. Throughout the day of walking the memorials, he insisted on walking up the stairs and not taking the elevator like the rest of the veterans. Just in that one day of spending time with him, he left such a significant impact on my life.

Bill was a unique person that was capable of loving everyone and being loved by everyone. I have known Bill for about 46 years and in that time we have gone from business associates to very close friends. Shared a lot of personal things about family and it was like being a part of each other’s family. Besides that Bill was an excellent technician (best in the business) and on top of that he was the best salesman. He made us all look good as a company. We already miss his smile and the swagger when he got out of his Corvette. God bless him

From the first time I talked with him on the phone I knew what kind of man he was. Thanks Gene Bowman for introducing this three way friendship.
Working on Bills Avanti Studebaker was a pleasure and watching him light up and smile everytime we accomplished a task on his Avanti was rewarding.
Many times we talked for a hour or so he never failed to talk about his family, he was proud of all his kids and grand kids.
Bill we be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was welcomed home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I know he's still smiling now.
