February 11, 1924March 6, 2013

Albert “Herb” Perna passed away at home on March 6 at the age of 89 following a long illness. He was a lifelong Greenwich resident, and partner in Perna Brothers Inc. before his retirement. He was the son of Joseph and Josephine Perna, both late of Greenwich. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ange, a daughter Jane, sons Joseph and Michael, a brother Vincent Perna, MD, daughters-in-law Constance and Joanie, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred and Joseph, and his sister Mary Sabia, all from Greenwich. Herb graduated from Greenwich High School and studied Civil Engineering at the University of Connecticut until his enlistment into the US Navy during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his military service, he spent his entire career in the construction and excavation business in the Greenwich area. Herb was a member of the VFW, an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing. He was highly thought of by those whom he knew, and admired by young people as well as his contemporaries. Known as someone who was always willing to help others, he volunteered his time tirelessly. His humor, which brought smiles to many faces, will be greatly missed. I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Herbie. His beautiful eyes, his amazing smile & sense humor and his enormous heart. He was such a kind and loving brother to my father. He spent precious time with my family a few years ago...My sisters and I were so happy to sit around the kitchen table with him while he shared his great stories! I wish I could be with you at this time - I send my love and prayers to you now and always- Patty
