Anthony (Tony) Armenio, 69, passed from this life on November 12, 2010. He died peacefully at the Rosenthal Hospice, in Stamford, CT, with his wife, daughters, and sister-in-law by his side.
Tony graduated from Holy Cross High School in Bayside, NY, and went on to play baseball and graduate from Fordham University. He married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Miller. Soon after, he served as 1st Lieutenant, Supplies Division, at Fort Ord, CA. Together, Tony and Gerri raised their family in Douglaston, NY, where they were parishioners of St. Anastasia R.C. Church. He worked in the garment industry for many years, following in his father’s footsteps where he and his brother had their own business, Sal Antony. Later, he spent many happy years working alongside his cousin.
Tony’s passions included baseball, golf, tennis, and family football games with his 7 grandchildren. Tony enjoyed many special times amongst friends and family at the Douglaston Club.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife Gerri of 46 years, daughter Donna and son-in-law Kenneth Turnbull of Ridgewood, NJ, and daughter Denise and son-in-law Scott Sodokoff of Greenwich, CT. He is also survived by brother Salvatore Armenio and his wife Ruth. He is the cherished grandfather of Kenny, Christopher, and Ashley Turnbll and Jessica, Rachel, Justin and Jason Sodokoff. Tony was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Angelo and Jennie Armenio. A Mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 15, 2010 at St Michael’s Church, Greenwich, CT. Friends may call at the Leo P Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 31 Arch Street, Greenwich,CT from 1pm until 5pm Sunday November,14 2010.
